A number of associates and board members from the Transnational Foundation of Peace and Future Research (TFF) have decided to prepare and launch an anthology of articles in this time to provide a broader understanding of China.
In the sixth article, 王玥玮 Wang Yuewei, postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities and Social Sciences (TIAS, 人文与社会科学高等研究所 ) elaborates on governance and diplomacy in China from historical, cultural and philosophical perspectives.
… Thus, long before globalization and modernization, China had already laid a rich philosophical foundation for today’s advocacy of “unity in diversity” (多元一体) and “harmony without uniformity” (和而不同). The policy of governing according to local customs complements the current system of regional ethnic autonomy in China. Similarly, the diplomatic principle of cherishing men from afar is reflected in China’s contemporary Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
